How much does an e-shop cost in 2026? Every cost, including the running ones

What drives the cost of an e-shop in Greece, how much Shopify costs per month, which fees you pay on every sale and what running costs you have once it is built.

What determines the cost of the build

FactorWhat it affects
PlatformShopify (subscription, little maintenance) or WooCommerce (hosting, more maintenance)
DesignCustomising a ready-made theme or a fully custom design
Number of products20 products can be added by hand; 2,000 need a bulk import
VariantsSizes, colours and pack sizes multiply the work
IntegrationsCourier, e-invoicing provider, ERP, warehouse
Retail or wholesalePer customer prices and account approvals add logic
LanguagesEvery language needs translation and setup
ContentWho writes the descriptions and takes the photos

That is why a price like "e-shop from €X", given without knowing what you sell, tells you little. The right question for any agency is: what exactly is included, and what will I pay every month afterwards?

How much Shopify costs per month in Greece

Prices from Shopify's official pricing page for Greece (October 2026):

PlanMonthly priceBilled yearlyCard fee (Shopify Payments)Fee if you use another payment provider
Basic€27/month€19/month1.9% + €0.252%
Grow€74/month€56/month1.8% + €0.251%
Advanced€384/month€289/month1.7% + €0.250.6%
Plusfrom €2,100/monthOn request1.5% + €0.250.2%

Shopify gives you a 3 day free trial, then €1/month for the first 3 months. Hosting and SSL are included.

What this means in practice: for most new Greek e-shops, Basic is enough. Grow is worth it when you need staff accounts (Basic does not have them) or when sales grow enough for the lower fee to cover the difference.

What about WooCommerce?

WooCommerce itself is free. But you pay for:

  • Hosting: good hosting for an e-shop, not the cheapest shared plan. Cheap hosting is the most common reason a WooCommerce shop becomes slow.
  • Premium plugins: filters, courier integrations, invoicing. Many have a yearly licence.
  • Maintenance: updates, backups, security. Either your time or someone's subscription.
  • Payment fees: whichever card provider you choose, you pay a percentage on every transaction.

WooCommerce usually works out cheaper per month, but more expensive in time and in build cost when you need something special. The full breakdown is in our article Shopify or WooCommerce?

The running costs everyone forgets

How to compare e-shop quotes

  1. Ask for a list of everything included: pages, products the agency adds, integrations, training.
  2. Ask for the first year's running costs in writing, not just the build price.
  3. Ask who owns the domain, the platform account and the content. They should be in your name.
  4. Ask what happens after launch: who responds if something breaks, and how quickly.
  5. Ask for projects that are live today, not just screenshots.
